Ep. 6: 1990: The Bronx Warriors, Dark O' the Moon Pumpkin Stout from Elysian Brewing

Updated: Apr 27, 2023

We’ll be talking a lot about Mark Gregory’s, the actor playing Trash, walking style. What is that all about? Fred Williamson, a man’s man, even tried to help Mark learn how to walk, and this is the result. Jayson’s wife: Mark Gregory walks like a nine year old girls.

We're drinking Elysian Brewing's Dark O’ the Moon. Pumpkin stout with roasted pumpkin seeds, chocolate and spice. Dessert beer? Cheesecake? Might want several of these if you’re watching this film. They make a lot of good stuff, so give them a quaff.

The opening credits for this one are a sight to behold. Glittery "Clockwork Orange" costumes. John Carpenter could have sued for the music. Also, they misspell ‘attempts.’ Lots of gangs with ‘cool’ names, that aren’t very scary or intimidating.

The Bronx is no man’s land, but Ann gets in there quite easily. It’s no Fort Knox.

“Call Hammer.” This is a big deal for the Manhattan Corp. Jayson questions the Manhattan Corp.’s business continuity plan, also their decision to hire Hammer. HR was not consulted.

Coolest part of the movie, the guy banging the drums by the river when the Riders find their dead friend.

We meet Vic Morrow as Hammer, when he arrives in the Bronx and proves he’s an awful person. Murders two people, including an unarmed woman. Hammer’s "Mission Statement" in two quotes: “I work for nobody. I don’t care about the Manhattan Corporation. I don’t care about the girl, I don’t care about politics. I don’t care about anything. I believe in nothing, I’m Hammer, the exterminator.” Hot Dog: “You’re playing with fire.” Hammer: “I know. And I love it. I love it.”

Jayson did a deep dive on the actor playing Ice, Joshua Sinclair, and found he’s quite the Renaissance man.

The spreading of the slain Riders ashes turns into a real “Big Lebowski” moment. We wonder if the Coen Brothers may have seen this.

The police get seriously pranked by the Rider, when they spraypaint “shit” on the windshield of their truck. Another instance where these supposedly ‘tough’ gangs look more like teenage delinquents.

We discuss Trash’s touching soliloquy about death in the Bronx, that Jayson recites in a more dramatic fashion.

Blade, Trash’s trusted underling, is told to keep an eye on Ice. This is due to Hammer’s convoluted scheming. Hammer’s a brute, from the Bronx, but he has some real scheming schemes. Trash runs the gauntlet, Kung Fu style.

The weird cocktail party where Ann realizes she wants to lead the Manhattan Corp. Somehow they know it’s Ann’s birthday????

Hammer shows up with cavalry, helicopters, grappling hooks, flamethrowers, laughing all the way as he sends his troops in to mass murder everyone. Hammer was a poor hire. His mission was supposed to be hush hush, but he literally invades with an army, Operation: Scorched Earth. Trash gets his revenge, though, harpooning and dragging Hammer behind his motorcycle to the end credits.

This is not a first date movie. Good for a drinking game. Michael recommends it, sort of. Jayson couldn’t recommend it in good conscience, unless you’re drunk. Mark Gregory’s walk alone might be worth a view.
