Did you know he started his career as a standup comic? He did. Came along in the glory days of the 1970s Los Angeles comedy boom alongside legends like David Letterman, Jay Leno and Freddie Prinze.
He was in the 1978 cult comedy Car Wash.
He was in Take This Job and Shove It. This may be of little interest to some, but it was shot in my hometown, and that means a lot. Tim Thomerson likely got drunk in my hometown shooting a movie. That’s awesome.
My first pick for the Beer & B-Movies podcast was Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Syn. Saw it at a drive in theater, in 3D, as a kid. This movie means a lot to me, partly because of Tim Thomerson’s roguish drunk, Rhodes.
He was in Rhinestone!!!!...um. Yeah. Well, anyway, let’s move on.
Ever heard of Trancers? Well, he’s the lead in that series, playing Jack Deth. This started a beautiful collaboration with Charles Band.
Freaking Zone Troopers.
He was in Kathryn Bigelow’s directorial debut, Near Dark. Forget The Lost Boys, Near Dark was the best vampire movie released in 1987.
He was Brick Bardo in Dollman and Dollman vs. Demonic Toys. There’s that Charles Band fellow again.
He had a cameo in Terry Gilliam’s adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
These are just ten of the reasons we at Beer & B-Movies love Tim Thomerson. Feel free to share your own.
